Family. Community. Hockey.
Seattle Junior's commitment to being a community-focused hockey association is epitomized by the Beginner Hockey program. From hundreds of Junior Coaches, current and former SJHA players who take time out of their busy lives to give their love and knowledge of the game to the next generation of hockey players, to our Beginner Director, Coach Jerry Weir, a 27 year veteran coach and one of the area's most influential proponents of youth hockey, our program's approach is all about building community through passion for hockey. At SJHA's Beginner Hockey we have a few simple goals: to always be excited coming to the rink, to meet new people and make genuine connections on and off the ice, and to learn the basic skating and puck handling skills that will be essential to move to a full season team. Coach Jerry's focus on skating with Hockey 1, Hockey 2, and Late Start is imperative to the success of our Beginners when they move up to Rec or even Rep hockey. Ask anyone at SJHA, chances are that Coach Jerry taught them how to stop, swizzle, crossover, backward c-cut, or shoot in stride. Our staff and volunteers are welcoming, knowledgable, and will do anything to be helpful. And our program is growing! This year alone, SJHA saw an over 25% increase in Beginner Hockey registrations from the last three years combined. Now is the time to get involved in our growing hockey community. If you have questions about the program do not hesitate to reach out to marty.rubin@sjha.com. Remember to stop Coach Jerry in the lobby to introduce yourself and you will receive a warm welcome to the community, one that you and your new skater will never forget!
