Welcome Mark Sorensen and Spencer Alvarez, our new Co-Directors of Goalie Development!

Effective August 1st, 2023 Mark Sorensen and Spencer Alvarez will be Seattle Junior's co-Directors of Goalie Development. The overall mission of the program is to grow the interest in the position, catalyze and support the development of the goalies, and be a resource for parent and coaching education as well. Our new Directors believe in fostering a supportive and positive learning environment, tailored to each individual's unique strengths and weaknesses. Whether it's refining technical skills, enhancing mental resilience, or developing strategic game awareness, our program will provide personalized guidance and mentorship to help goaltenders, goalie coaches, and goalie parents excel both on and off the ice.

Mark Sorensen is an enthusiastic and dedicated goaltending coach with a passion for developing young goalies. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta and later moving to Seattle, Mark has been immersed life long in the world of hockey and goaltending. With a playing career spanning various levels of competition, Mark brings invaluable on-ice experience to their coaching approach. Having playing experience from the Midget AAA, Junior B, Junior A, and major junior levels, he has honed his skills and gained a deep understanding of the nuances of the game. His extensive knowledge of the game, coupled with his ability to analyze and break down goaltending techniques, will make him a sought-after coach in the hockey community.

Spencer Alvarez is a dedicated Seattle Junior coach who has spent the last four seasons Head and Assistant coaching in the Northwest Stars AAA program as well as leading their goalie development plan. Spencer hails from Anchorage, AK where he played in net in Tier II Junior Hockey in the NAHL. Spencer moved beyond hockey to become a United States Marine. Through these experiences, Spencer has developed an attention to detail and discipline that will be a major value add for goalies in our association.

With Mark and Spencer as co-Director, you can expect a wealth of knowledge, positive energy, a strong work ethic, and a genuine passion for the game. We as an organization are committed to empowering our athletes, instilling confidence, and cultivating a lifelong love for goaltending and we believe we have the right people to lead the way.

The program will focus on the following initiatives:

On-ice instruction
Coach development
Camps & Clinics
Off-ice instruction
Parent education
Gear library

Mark and Spencer will formally reach out to the goalie families and SJHA coaches in early August to divulge their curriculum plan as well as camps and clinics to look forward to in-season. Welcome, Mark and Spencer!
