Late Start To Hockey - Learn To Play Hockey

Late Start - LEARN TO PLAY
Ages: 10 - 15 years old
Prerequisite:  N/A (new skaters welcome)

Saturday Morning's from 9:45am - 10:30am at Olympic View Arena

March: 16th, 23rd & 30th
April:  6th, 13th, 20th & 27th (Class on 4/27 is from 1:15pm - 2:00pm)
May:  4th (Class on 5/4 is from 8:45am - 9:30am)

Mini-Games at Olympic View Arena - Sunday, April 28th & May 5th - Time TBD

The objectives of Late Start To Hockey are centered around the fundamentals of ice skating. It’s important for beginner players at any age to become comfortable on the ice, learn the basic hockey stance, stride, knee bend, use of edges and how to hold a stick before moving onto recreational hockey. Our Late Start program will prepare new players ages 10 and older to have the skating and puck handling skills to matriculate to full ice team hockey the following year. Below are the objectives for Late Start To Hockey:

A. Players will be able to stride forward using 45 degree V-Push, focus on good recovery and alternating arm drive

B. Players will be able to one-foot push and glide forward (right and left)

C. Players will be able to backward hustle or march, then glide on two feet

D. Players will be able to backward C-Cut, single leg (right and left) and alternating feet (right and left) in a straight line

E. Players will be able to two-foot moving Snowplow stop

F. Players will be able to side-to-side and front-to-back stickhandle

G. Players will be able to forehand, backhand pass, and receive a pass properly with a stick

H. Players will be able to wrist shot

I. Players will be able to accept safe body on body contact and lift an opponent’s stick

Hockey Wolf Equipment Rental

Gear available for rent consists of the following:

* Skates
* Helmet
* Shoulder Pads
* Elbow Pads
* Shin Guards
* Hockey Pants
* Gloves
* Equipment Bag

Additional personal equipment that is required, but not included with rental is:
* Protective Cup
* Hockey Stick

These personal items are available for purchase at the Hockeywolf Pro Shop located at Olympic  View Arena.
