Girls' Try Hockey for Free September 8th

Friday, September 8th

5:15pm - 6:15pm at Olympicview Arena

Ages:  4-17
Prerequisite:  N/A (new skaters welcome)
Cost: N/A (free event)

SJHA, in partnership with WWFHA, are proud to announce our Girls' Try Hockey for Free event for the Seattle area. This program is centered around the fundamentals of ice skating. It’s important for new players to become comfortable on the ice, learning the basic foundational skills of hockey such as your stance, stride, how to hold a stick, and how to use your edges.  Most importantly, you will get to explore how fun the game of hockey is - all for the first time!

What to expect on the day:

CHECK IN:  Please plan on arriving at the rink at least 30 minutes prior to the start time for the event for check-in and to get fitted with equipment.

EQUIPMENT:  We will have instructors on hand to help suit up your child; you can see how the equipment goes on by checking out the Getting Dressed video.

What to bring: We encourage those who have access to equipment, to please bring it. If you do not have any equipment, you will need to bring:

-   A loose-fitting pair of sweatpants or snow pants

-   A pair of gloves (they don’t need to be hockey gloves- mittens are fine)

-   A helmet (bike helmets are great!)

-   A Smile

What will be provided:  We have skates, sticks, and a limited amount of knee pads and other equipment available for you to borrow.  If you have any equipment questions, please let us know.

Try Hockey For Free is a beautiful event where your young kids get to have their FIRST on-ice hockey experience! We will have plenty of coaches on hand to provide your child the fun, safe, and exciting hockey environment that is standard practice at SJHA. Skaters will get an opportunity to learn the basic skills of youth hockey and enjoy their first game. This is also a very important event for bringing new players into the game.  We invite all of you to reach out to friends, neighbors, family, co-workers and community groups to help spread the word!!
