We are excited to announce that Programs Coordinator, Marty Rubin, has been named the new Hockey Director for the Seattle Junior Hockey Association. This promotion comes after Marty’s excellent work bolstering the association’s membership communication and social media presence through initiatives such as the ‘Chip and Go’ Newsletter and the SJHA Community Services Page. Marty will take over the duties from current Hockey Director, Nick Fouts, who will step away from the position to take on a fantastic career opportunity in a different field.

Nick has spent the last seven years with Seattle Junior as a coach, Assistant Hockey Director, and Hockey Director.

“I am very proud of the progress I have been fortunate enough to be a part of over the last seven years. From seeing the additions of a full girl’s program to nearly doubling the Association’s enrollment in that time, I am very excited about the future of this Association. The greater Seattle area is on the brink of what should be the most exciting time in the history of hockey and the potential growth of the game here. When I first put skates on nearly 37 years ago at Lynnwood Ice Center for Seattle Junior Hockey Association’s Beginner Program, I never imagined that hockey would be where it is today, where kids have so many opportunities to play at any level they choose.”

While Nick will be stepping away from his role as the Hockey Director, he will still be intimately involved in the Association’s progress as a leader and a coach.

“I am very excited that Marty will be filling this position. I know that the growth of our Association will continue with his leadership. I believe he is one of the best young minds in our sport and the kids in our Association will reap the benefits of his approach for years to come. I am looking forward to remaining in the SJHA family to work on special projects with Marty and the rest of the staff through these exciting times.”

Mike Murphy, President of the Seattle Junior Hockey Association, is also just as positive about this transition. “As President I would like to thank Foutsy for all his hard work as our Hockey Director. He did a great job and while we are excited for his new opportunity, we are sad to see him leave. We also are very fortunate to have Marty on our roster and ready to move into the Hockey Director position and keep us moving forward in this huge time in our area for the great game we all love so much!”

Marty Rubin is a graduate of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut where he played four years of NCAA DIII hockey. Marty then went on to become a devoted educator through Teach For America while continuing to be involved in his local hockey community. At SJHA, Marty took over coaching both the Northwest Admirals 14U A2 team and the Northwest Stars 14U A1 team while acting as the Programs Coordinator for the organization. He is a detail-oriented, energetic coach with an organized approach to systems-level administration. Away from the rink, Marty loves to play his guitar and mandolin, hike across Washington, and cook with his partner Issy.

“It is an honor to step into the Hockey Director position after working inside the organization in several capacities. I want to thank Nick Fouts, Mike Murphy, Ian Armstrong, and Lisa Menzl for their unconditional support. Moving forward, I am dedicated to creating an exciting, safe, and memorable hockey experience for our players, coaches, and parents alike. I pride myself on clear and transparent communication and I expect the same from our community. Together, we can strengthen our bond as a community and teach our players to be life-long lovers of the great game of hockey.”

We thank Nick Fouts once again for his years of dedication and hard work.
